Marion Jones, ex-Olympic champion who was stripped of 3 gold medals due to steroid use, has signed a contract with the Tulsa Shock.

The 34-year-old was the first female track and field athlete to bag five medals at one Olympic event. This happened during the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. However, in 2007, she admitted of using performance-enhancing drugs, resulting to the forfeiture of all five medals.

Shock coach Nolan Richardson  said, “We’re thrilled to have her. In the workouts last week I saw how hard she works. She has things you can’t teach, like speed and great hand and eye coordination. She looks chiseled. Her age (34) might be saying one thing but everything about her is saying she’s young.”

Jones, who spent six months inside a federal prison in Texas and was released in September 2008, said, “I may not be your typical rookie in this league, but I’ll still bring that rookie energy. I’m looking forward to competing against the best female athletes in the world.”
