Transformers 3 Filming Accident

“Transformers” might be all about computer generated robots but obviously it isn’t just all about computer effects.

A tragic accident left a film extra critically injured.

It was supposed to be a “normal” scene in any Transformers movie:  Drivers moving along a busy highway as explosions go off in the opposite lane.  The part was being shot in Cline Avenue in Hammond.  Suddenly a cable pulling some vehicles snapped and a flying object struck Gabriella Cedillo, 24, of Chicago.  A metal object smashed through the windshield and struck her in the head.  It was 7 p.m.

Noting happened at once for her car continued moving, skidding along the inner median concrete barrier for about a mile before stopping.

This particular scene involved 100 extras.

Another extra said that he and the others were in their cars on the right side of the road as Cedillo’s car skid by.  “When the car came by, it was hugging the rail in the middle of the street,” Blaine Baker, the extra, said.

Cedillo had to be airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

Extras for the film are paid the minimum wage plus an extra $25/ day for the use of their car.
