There has been a lot of talk regarding the potential monetization of the Twitter service by Twitter themselves over the past few months, but these have all been consequently shelved piece by piece as press release after press release continued to drone on about Twitter’s “commitment to its users” – until Tuesday evening, when more than 300 confidential Twitter documents and screenshots managed to find their way directly into TechCrunch’s hands.
The papers, of which TechCrunch has exercised caution and integrity in determining what and which to divulge, reportedly contain sensitive business information for Twitter, ranging from financial forecasts, confidentiality agreements between major firms and new employee interview schedules, down to employee dietary restrictions and phone logs / bills.
The TechCrunch reports detailed on several issues of interest, the latest being documentation and minutes from managerial talks wherein strategies and goals in Twitter were discussed.
Some of the key points in the report include :
- Twitter’s monetization target of $1 per user per year within five years’ time
- How Twitter can outthink (or work with) Google
- The continuously strengthening threats by Facebook and how Twitter plans to combat it
- Addressing celebrity figures (Oprah, 4chan, Diddy, etc.) who steer influence within Twitter (and serve as distractions)
- Acquisition targets for Twitter (TwitPic, CoTweet)
- Twitter’s revenue model
The report assures that Twitter has allowed the disclosure of the information discussed, though they could’ve done without it if they had their way.
