UFC fighter Forrest Griffin scored a victory against UFC fighter Tito Ortiz by split-decision Saturday, in a much-awaited sequel to their memorable Anaheim clash back in 2006.
Both former UFC light-heavyweight champions, Forrest and Ortiz fought on arguably equal footing in the match, with both fighters sustaining heavy blows, but Ortiz seemed to lose a significant amount of steam in the third and final round, possibly costing him the victory.
Round 1 : Griffin puts on the offensive rather early in the fight, getting Ortiz with a right standing, but Ortiz manages a right of his own. Ortiz manages to take down Griffin and tries to pound him down, but Griffin manages to get the fight standing with a Kimora submission hold. Griffin lets loose with a few key punches and jabs, with Ortiz missing a take down.
Round 2 : Ortiz manages to take down Griffin once again, but Griffin succeeds in reversing it, and manages to kick Ortiz squarely in the face, knocking his mouthpiece off. Griffin loses the chance to capitalize on this chance, however, when Ortiz hits another take down, this time letting loose with a flurry of punches and elbows to Griffin’s face. Griffin sustains a cut under his left eye.
Round 3 : The final round saw Griffin on offense, with Ortiz just inching away for cover most of the time. Griffin hits with a number of hard rights and combinations to Ortiz’ body and legs. Ortiz manages some hard hits in the final moments of the round, but it was probably too late.
