Universal Studios Korea Resort is set to open in 2014 after being held up for a few years due to the global financial crisis.
The theme park, which is the largest Universal project in Asia, was originally planned to be up and running in 2012. The resort is to be built in Gyeonggi province, South Korea.
Governor Kim Moon-soo of the Gyeonggi province said the project is now back on track, and blamed the economic crisis for the delay.
At a press conference, Kim said, “Our Universal Studios in Korea is bigger than all the other studios combined. This will be a remarkable landmark for tourism in Korea.”
Construction is scheduled to begin early next year.
A framework agreement was signed on Tuesday, with 15 partners participating in this development project. They expect the $2.7 billion venture to attract about 15 million tourists and visitors annually from all parts of the world.
