University of Connecticut scoops NCAA crown

The University of Connecticut Huskies defeated the Butler University Bulldogs Monday night. 53-41, to win the NCAA basketball championship.

The showdown between the final two teams was action-packed as blocked shots and defensive stops resulted to 88 missed field goal attempts.

UConn coach Jim Calhoun said, “To me, that’s beauty…Damn, I loved it.” This is his third national championship title, making him only the fifth coach to win more than two titles. The other four were Mike Krzyzewski, John Wooden, Bob Knight and Adolph Rupp. This win also makes him the oldest to win a national title at age 68.

“This group has taken me on one of the great, special journeys, better than any I could possibly imagine…When I needed maybe a little more of what I do — which is teach and coach for 39 years — they gave me it ten-fold,” Calhoun added.
