Victoria Azarenka Collapses on Court

Victoria Azarenka of Belarus collapsed on the Grandstand court after playing for only 35 minutes against Gisela Dulko of Argentina.

Azenka, 21, was already noticed to look weary from the start.  As the match went on, her footwork and movement became more sluggish until she collapsed.  A trainer rushed to her as did her opponent.  She was checked and worked on but had to be taken to the hospital for further tests.

Later on she says, “I was warming up in the gym when I fell while running a sprint.  I hit my arm and head.  I was checked by the medical team before I played and they were courtside monitoring.  I felt worse during the match:  having a headache and feeling dizzy.  I also had trouble seeing.  I was diagnosed with a mild concussion.”

Azarenka is an aggressive baseliner.  She is known for her well timed and powerful ground strokes.  She is also known for her temper and had been criticized a lot of times for her noisy play whenever she hits the ball.
