Vinny Cerrato has resigned as the Washington Redskins‘ executive vice-president, according to a formal announcement by the team.
“Of course I am disappointed with this year’s results, ” says Cerrato about the Redskins’ performance for the season in a formal statement. “But I strongly believe that with outstanding picks and encouraging performance by our younger players, we have laid a strong foundation for the franchise.
“We agreed that the franchise needs someone different in this position. I’m thankful to Dan Snyder and other members of this ownership team for the opportunities I’ve been given over the years.”
Cerrato took up the position of EVP in January 2008, succeeding from Redskin Joe Gibbs.
Cerrato played a central role in the acquisition of Redskin coach Jim Zorn and, more recently, consultant Sherm Lewis. The hiring of Lewis led to a major change in the team, with Zorn having to give up his play-calling duties in lieu of Lewis, but eventually led to two straight games racking up at least 30 points subsequently and a strong combined offense.
