Former US vice president Dick Cheney, who suffered from coronary artery problems for the longest time, had an operation last week and had a small heart device implanted.
The procedure was performed at the Inova Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia.
The 69-year-old said in a statement, “A few weeks ago, it became clear that I was entering a new phase of the disease when I began to experience increasing congestive heart failure. After a series of recent tests and discussions with my doctors, I decided to take advantage of one of the new technologies available and have a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) implanted.”
Cheney experienced his first heart attack when he was 37. In February, he had a minor heart attack and had undergone operations to unclog his arteries and a quadruple-bypass surgery.
He is now recovering and doing well, and, according to him, the device would enable him to “resume an active life.”
