Microsoft is scheduled to release Windows 7, their newest Windows platform for PCs, on October 22, and promises to provide improvements that far eclipse Windows XP and Windows Vista, the two versions most widely in use today. A Wired.com report provides an early peek at the much-awaited OS.
Some of the noteworthy features highlighted by Wired.com include:
- A heavily revamped graphics and presentation engine, including various new and/or improved Aero features, such as Aero Snap and Aero Shake.
- Better memory management for open programs and applications – Windows 7 runs faster than its predecessors because open programs that you aren’t currently using (i.e. minimized) do not use as much memory anymore as before.
- How the new Windows Start menu and taskbar perform differently (and arguably, more efficiently) than before.
