Winter Olympics 2010: Canada wins hockey gold in overtime

Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010 – Canadian Sidney Crosby was the hero of the game as he scored the  game-winning goal to lift his team past the Americans in overtime, 3-2.

Crosby made the shot with 7:40 into OT. “I just shot it. I think it went five-hole but I didn’t really see it. I thought we had some really good shifts in overtime and were really pressing,” Crosby said.

This gold medal is Canada’s 11th in Olympic hockey. Team Canada got its first Olympic hockey gold in Salt Lake City eight years ago against a Team USA that was made up of NHL players.

Canada’s goaltender Roberto Luongo, whose skill was doubted and questioned when he was chosen to play for Canada, said, “I’m wearing a gold medal around my neck. I don’t care what they think.”

This victory gave Canada its 14th gold at this year’s Winter Olympics.
