Winter Olympics 2010: Canadian curlers move on to the semifinal

Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010 – Canada defeated Sweden, 6-2, on Monday to clinch a semifinal spot in the women’s Olympic curling tournament.

The victory was a big comeback for the Canadian women, after losing to the Chinese on Sunday, spoiling Canada’s five-game winning streak.

The win improved Canada’s win-loss record to 6-1.

Olympic curling defending champ Sweden, who is behind Canada in the standings at 5-2, needs to win at least one of its last two games to secure a semifinal berth.

The China team currently has 5 wins and 3 losses, and will need to win its last game against the United States on Tuesday to move on to the semis.

The Swiss (4 wins, 3 losses) still have 2 matches left (against the Germans and the Americans) and are still fighting for a semifinal spot.
