Winter Olympics 2010: USA’s Ryan Miller gets MVP award despite losing to Canada in hockey

Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010 – The Americans were unable to snatch the Olympic hockey gold, but goalie Ryan Miller proved that his contributions to the team deserved some recognition.

The 29-year-old was named the Most Valuable Player of the hockey tournament.

When American Sidney Crosby made the game-winning goal at 7:40 into overtime, Miller dropped to his knees and laid on the ice for a moment.

Miller, who made 36 saves in the game, said, “I’m just very frustrated. We got ourselves in a position to win from two goals down. Sudden death kind of stings, especially in this situation. I was happy, proud, the way I handled myself these two weeks.”

Miller politely accepted his silver medal, but the disappointment and frustration that he felt was quite evident on his face.

“He’s pretty down, but there’s no chance we’re here without the way he played the whole tournament,” Chris Drury, a former Buffalo Sabres teammate, said. “It’s heartbreaking to lose in OT of a gold-medal game, but he should be proud of everything he did the last two weeks.”
