A scoring drought during the second half of the game did not stop Wofford College to defeat Appalachian St, 56-51, Monday night and earn its first ever NCAA berth.
Wofford College, popular in the sports community as the home of the Carolina Panthers’ training camp, snatched its 13th straight win despite being scoreless for almost 10 minutes during the game.
Tim Johnson grabbed 13 rebounds for the Terriers, who are now at 26-8.
The Appalachian State Mountaineers dropped to 22-12, with Andrew Williamson and Ryann Abraham scoring 12 and 11 points, respectively. The team’s top scorers, Kellen Brand and Donald Sims, made a combined 2 out of 23 field goals.
Forward Noah Dahlman of Wofford College, who contributed 10 points and 8 rebounds, was given the tournament MVP award.
