Microsoft has confirmed that they will be releasing an update for Xbox 360 consoles on April 6, allowing owners to use a USB memory stick with their console to store game information, saved games, profile and the like.
Granted, Microsoft has shared that the maximum allowable memory space that can be used by updated Xbox 360 consoles will be 16GB, but that number may be more than enough for most. The rest of memory space will be accessible via normal means using a PC or Mac.
Reports suggest that USB hard disk drives will also be compatible, but the flash memory present in thumb drives and memory sticks normally allow for faster access than the memory used by bulky disk drives, so Microsoft discourages that use of HDDs in particular. A console owner will only be able to use 16GB of the HDD anyway, which, by today’s standards, is a very small part of most HDDs.
