Michele Dufault, a graduating Yale University student, was killed inside a campus laboratory when her hair got caught and pulled into a machine-shop equipment.
According to the university, Dufault, a senior Astronomy and Physics major from Scituate, Massachusetts, was at the Sterling Chemistry Laboratory when the accident happened. Authorities responded to a 911 call at around 2:30 in the morning and found her without a pulse.
Yale Vice President Linda Koch said, “By all reports, Michele was an exceptional young woman, an outstanding student and young scientist, a dear friend and a vibrant member of this community. We will find ways in the next day to gather to celebrate her life and grieve this loss.”
Yale closed the lab on Wednesday and canceled all classes in the building where the lab’s located. Investigation is ongoing.
