Looking young may mean longer life

A study conducted by Danish researchers revealed that looking younger for your age may equate to a longer life.

The research was done on 1,826 Danish twins who were at least 70 years old in 2001. They underwent a series of cognitive and physical tests, and were photographed.  The photos were shown to three volunteer groups who were asked to guess the ages of the participants by just looking at the photos.

According to the researchers, who were from the University of Southern Denmark, they followed the lifestyle of the sets of twins for about seven years and found a significant connection between their perceived ages and survival. They said, “The bigger the difference in perceived age, the more likely it was that the older-looking twin died first.”

They also suggested that baby-faced people tend to have longer telomeres, a DNA component that is connected to aging.

The research was published online in the British Medical Journal (BMJ).
